Privacy Policy

Last updated: 3 June 2026

This policy explains what information Gods and Monsters (“we”, “us”) collects when you visit godsandmonsters.info, how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the site and share our mythology content.

Who we are

Gods and Monsters is a website about mythology, folklore, gods, monsters, and legends from around the world. You can reach us at team@godsandmonsters.info.

What we collect and why

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site so we can improve it. This collects pseudonymous information such as the pages you view, how you arrived, your approximate location (country or region), and your device and browser type. We do not use it to identify you personally. Google processes this data on our behalf; see Google’s privacy policy for details.

Newsletter

Our newsletter is hosted on Substack. If you choose to subscribe, you provide your email address directly to Substack, where it is stored and processed under Substack’s privacy policy. We do not store your email address on this website. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter email.

When you contact us

If you email us or submit a suggestion through our “Request a myth” page, we receive the information you send, such as your message and any contact details you include, so that we can respond. We use it only for that purpose.

Server logs

Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically records standard technical information (such as IP addresses and browser details) for security and reliability. These logs are kept only as long as needed for those purposes.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies. Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics help us measure how the site is used. Embedded content and links to third-party platforms (see below) may also set their own cookies. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings.

Embedded content from other websites

Some pages include embedded content (for example, videos or images from other sites). Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited the other website, and those sites may collect data about you, use cookies, and track your interaction with that content under their own policies.

Affiliate links

Some pages, including our book and toolkit page, contain affiliate links to third-party retailers. If you click one and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you, and the retailer may set its own cookies to track the referral. These links never change the price you pay.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the service providers that help us operate the site:

  • Our web host, which stores the site and its server logs;
  • Google, which provides our analytics;
  • Substack, which runs our newsletter if you subscribe.

How long we keep your data

Analytics data is retained according to our Google Analytics data-retention setting, after which Google automatically deletes the underlying data. Aggregated, non-identifying reports may be kept for longer. Newsletter subscriptions are kept by Substack until you unsubscribe. Messages you send us are kept only as long as needed to handle your request.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you, or to object to certain processing. To make a request, email us at team@godsandmonsters.info. To leave the newsletter, use the unsubscribe link in any email or contact Substack.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “last updated” date at the top of this page.
